Make the first conversation useful
- Briefly describe the issue and any deadline.
- Ask who will handle the work and how you will receive updates.
- Ask what the proposed work includes and excludes.
- Request a clear explanation of fees, VAT and possible extra costs.
- Ask about legal aid or other funding options where relevant.
Keep a record of what you agree
Read the firm’s written terms before instructing it and ask for clarification if something is unclear. Keep contact details and cost information together.
