Check the venue, then contact the court

Court Guide displays the facilities recorded by HMCTS for each venue. These can include step-free access, accessible toilets, hearing equipment and interview rooms. A facility appearing in the directory does not mean every part of the building or every hearing room is accessible.

Contact the court named on your hearing letter before the hearing. Describe the practical barrier you face and ask which arrangements are available for your visit.

Prepare a short list of needs

• Confirm the accessible entrance and where to report on arrival.
• Ask about hearing equipment, communication support or alternative document formats.
• Discuss any need for breaks or help navigating the building.
• Ask about parking or a suitable drop-off point if relevant.

If arrangements change

Let the court know promptly if your circumstances or hearing location change. Keep a note of the arrangements agreed and bring the relevant contact information with you.

If you are worried about your safety at court, raise this with the court in advance so it can explain what support may be possible.
