Court security: what to expect and what to bring

Allow time for checks

You go through security each time you enter a court building. Staff may check your bag, ask you to empty your pockets and use a scanner. Follow their instructions and explain if you need assistance with the process.

Check your bag before setting off

Weapons are prohibited. Everyday items such as scissors, glass bottles and some tools can also be refused. Full-length umbrellas, crash helmets, e-bikes and e-scooters are among the items covered by the current restrictions. Read the official list rather than assuming an item is acceptable.

Prescription medicines should carry the pharmacy label with your name and issue date. Check the official rules for drinks and other liquids; security may ask you to taste a drink.

Phones and cameras

You can bring a phone, but there are restrictions on photography, filming and recording. Silence your device during the hearing and follow court instructions.
