Finding employment tribunal decisions and written reasons

Start with the official decisions service

GOV.UK publishes employment tribunal decisions within its decisions collection. Search using the case information you already have and check the tribunal, date and document type. The document may be a judgment, written reasons or a decision on a particular issue rather than the final resolution of everything in the case.

Check what was actually decided

Read the outcome and the issues identified in the document. Do not infer that every allegation was accepted because one part of a claim succeeded, or that a withdrawn or dismissed issue has the same meaning as a finding after a full hearing.

An Employment Appeal Tribunal decision concerns the appeal before it. It is not interchangeable with the original tribunal's judgment. Check subsequent decisions and corrections if you need to understand the case history.

Use published cases responsibly

A published case can help you identify questions to discuss with an adviser, but it cannot predict your own result. Facts, evidence, procedural position and the applicable law matter. Observe any reporting restrictions and do not treat names in a search result as a directory of people.
