What to expect at Royal Courts of Justice

For an in-person hearing at Royal Courts of Justice, start with the address and time on your hearing notice. Plan the journey to WC2A 2LL and allow extra time for the security checks at the entrance.

When you arrive

Follow the signs to security, then find reception or an usher. Give your case reference if asked and check the courtroom or waiting area. If you do not understand a practical instruction, ask staff to explain it. Tell the usher if you need a break, assistance or cannot hear what is being said.

Can someone come with me?

Check before bringing a supporter or child. Public access and permission for supporters depend on the type of hearing and any order made by the judge. A person accompanying you is not automatically allowed to speak for you.

What if I am late or cannot attend?

Contact the court using the number for your type of case and tell your legal representative as soon as possible. Explain the problem and follow the court’s instructions. Do not assume that sending a message changes the hearing date.

Is my hearing definitely in this building?

Hearing Loop

The cafeteria is now open to the public. The Opening Hours are Monday to Friday between 9am to 3pm. Refreshment venues are available locally outside the Building but still in close proximity to the Court.

Baby changing facility

There are baby changing facilities within the accessible toilets situated in the Queen's Building on the ground floor.

Video facilities

Court and Hearing Room Video Conferencing facilities and prison-to-court video link facilities are available (by prior arrangement)

Wireless network connection

Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the Building, Please read the notices on display throughout the Building and follow the link. In Court facilities will be available for parties own IT equipment, eg - Electronic presentation of evidence and cabled broadband.

Parking

Parking access is limited for Disabled Access only. Please contact the Disability Contact Office at the Royal Courts of Justice via Email at RCJ.DCO@justice.gov.uk to enquire for Disabled Access parking only.

Security arch

For Safety and Security reasons, all users and their possessions will be searched by Security upon entering this building. There is a security arch in operation. Please alert Security upon entry if you have a Pacemaker for alternative arrangements to be made.

Lifts are available throughout the building to all floors.

The Building provides a Quiet Room for prayer or contemplation for court users. Please contact the Main Reception Desk or Security Team for details.
