What published prices can tell you

The SRA transparency rules require price and service information for specified services when a firm advertises those services. The requirements do not cover every type of legal work. A missing price in our records does not establish that a firm has breached a rule or will not provide a quote.

Keep the scope alongside the amount

Fixed fees, hourly rates and ranges describe different charging arrangements. Compare the service and stage, who will do the work, what is excluded, whether VAT is included and which expenses are separate. Court fees, medical reports, searches and barrister fees may sit outside a headline price.

What our provider evidence means

Where we have checked a firm’s public site, the profile links to its published service, pricing, appointment or access information. Evidence is labelled as firm-wide unless an exact office match is supported. Source text is not converted into a guaranteed quote or an assertion that an appointment is available.

Questions worth asking

Ask what assumptions the quote makes, when further charges arise, how you will be told about changes, who supervises the work and how to complain. If several firms quote for different scopes, ask each to explain those differences before comparing totals.
